How the counts work
Words are runs of characters separated by spaces or line breaks. Characters include spaces and punctuation; the "no spaces" figure leaves out spaces, tabs and line breaks. Sentences are counted by end punctuation, so abbreviations such as "e.g." can raise the number slightly. Reading time assumes about 230 words a minute and speaking time about 130.
