What the MLA Citations does

MLA style is used in English, literature, languages and much of the humanities. The 9th edition builds every entry from the same core elements, from author and title through container, publisher and date, which lets you cite nearly anything, from a novel to a song or a social media post. Knowing which element goes where, and which punctuation follows it, is the hard part.

Paste what you know about each source and this generator returns Works Cited entries in MLA 9 order, plus in-text citations with author and page. Entries are alphabetized. Optional elements are left out when you do not have them, but required ones that are missing are marked and listed so you can check the source.
